Live like the locals
Remember you want to experience another culture. Renting a house saves all sorts of money on accommodations and food, and gives you the opportunity to live like a local.
Don’t hesitate to ask the locals where the best place for a beer is. They know best and it will be less expensive than your choice.
Shop in the country: Leave town to shop. If you are in a tourist location you can bet that the cost of everything has been increased just for you.
This is not the case in smaller towns and you will be more likely to find yourself in a conversation with a local over what cheese they would recommend for that perfect picnic lunch.
